Farewell to Egypt....

This is known as 'The Valley of the Vultures'

everytime we walk through a market area- we are

swarmed upon!

This cute little girl was waving at

our bus as we drove by!

'Colossi of Memnon'
This boy jumped in the picture and of
course wanted money to do it. At this point
he was cute too and it was our last day!


'Karnak'

This area was huge and very impressive!


The obelisk in the background is blocked

by this wall of stones !

Found out one of the rulers didn't like his

mother in law and after she died instead of

tearing it down he tried to block it so it wouldn't

be seen! Little did he know he was actually

protecting it :)

The guy to the left wanted to be in the picture-
we said no and he managed to stay in anyway!

On our last day the tanks were rolling in.....

Here we are prepared to spend the night in the airport!

This is what we felt like......

Many of you have asked how we made it out, etc.

It was an adventure- we had a great tour and made

friends along the way. After a long time in the airport,

delayed flight, crazy bus drive with a minor accident,

throwing our luggage onto the conveyor belt, more lines,

our flight being changed, fighting the massive elbow to

elbow crowd to get to the passport control, waiting to

board, sitting on the plane for over an hour and then

finally flying to Rome, on to NYC and then home!

Never so glad to touch American soil....

We are still glad we went and felt a part of this

important time in Egypt's history!

To Be in Egypt.....

After the last post-visiting the Kom Ombo Temple

we were treated to this group of lively fellows playing music!

while everyone else partakes of assorted drinks or

smokes on the 'water pipe' we stay healthy by having

fresh Mango juice!

as we were cruising along- these boys wanted money
so we threw some in the water and they jumped in!

going through the Esna Lock- headed to Luxor!

these guys on the dock also wanted money-

I threw some to a boy in a film canister that he had

thrown up to me. One or two bigger guys jumped in

front of him to take it and a fight broke out. Not sure

of the little guy ever got it and I felt sad that they were

so desparate to get it....

Another Day in Egypt.....

Well preserved Temple complex of Iris on the
island of Philae.

Cruising the Nile....

I always have to find a 'Cow' and here is a B&W

on the edge of the Nile River!

These boats are used alot for transportation- back and

forth to different locations!

We took so many 'boat pictures'
It's a normal way of life for them....

A visit to the Nubian Village- visiting a local family!

This girl was busy weaving scrafs which they sell

to make money. She said it took about 3 hours to

make each one!

Steve bought this mask from the oldest son
of the house. His parents were dead so the
responsibility falls on him to take care of his
younger siblings.

After buying something from a open shop- these boys

were riding along on this camel and I asked for a picture.

They made the camel sit down which he wasn't too

happy about and turned his head (hah).

The visit to this village was probably one of the

highlights for me since I love to see the local culture

and witness how they really live (not the tourist areas).

Egypt #3

ABU SIMBEL

This was the highlight of our trip- we had to take

an extra flight to get there! This part was dedicated

to the Queen (alot smaller than the King's)

Took this one inside- 4 cows...

The whole site was actually moved since

it was closer to the water and needed

to be preserved better!

Over time one of the heads fell off and it was left to show

what happened as part of it's history!
