To celebrate Mother’s Day this year we spent the wk.end in Key West- also known as Cayo Heuso- spanish name meaning ‘Bone Island’
History lesson:
On the drive down we made a few stops along the way- the first to find the Henry Flager Train drawing in Key Largo which was done to commerate 100 years since the Overseas Railraod was completed in 1912- this was the first train into Key West which allowed linkage by railway of the entire east coast of Florida. (Below: Henry Flagler’s private car “Rambler”)

The drawing- this is for you Dad :)
Those of you that follow my blog have seen this ‘Huge Lobster’ before but it’s a landmark along the keys and a fun stop!
In front of the Customs House where alot of the Flagler Train memorabilia is on display!
Another sign with you in mind ;)
also on display was Hemmingway items!
another stop on the list was to see’ The Point’ which is also called Patio Beach on the Truman Annex (base). As a young girl I would go here to hang out on the beach and later as a young married couple we would watch the Sun set!
another view- complete with seaweed
actual Mother’s Day- Key West branch and my good friend Sondra (xo)
on the way home- taking a picture of what still remains of the ‘old bridge’
hard to imagine now how this was a 2 lane road- you would have to hold your breath when the greyhound bus was coming from the other direction!
eating at Sid & Roxie’s (Green Turtle Inn) another original landmark in the keys…
